On to Udaipur, the capital of Mewar, the only Rajput state that
never capitulated to the Moghuls. Udaipur is known as the "White
City", and is built on the shores of Lake Pichola, completely dry when
we were there. Rising from the middle of the lake bed is the Lake
Palace Hotel, formerly the summer palace of the Mewar Rajputs.
